It is well known that the Weibull distribution plays an important role in reliability applications because of its flexibility in being able to represent various patterns of failure rate functions. In this paper, we introduce some recent generations of Weibull distribution to represent the underlying software fault-detection time distribution of the NHPP-based SRMs. We study the effectiveness of Weibull-type distributions in software reliability modeling through goodness-of-fit test and prediction analysis.

A Comparative Analysis of Open Source Software Reliability
The purpose of this study is to compare the fitting (goodness-of-fit) and prediction capabilities of three reliability models using the failure data of five popular open source software (OSS) products. The failure data are modeled by Weibull and two other Non Homogenous Poisson Process (NHPP) models (Yamada S-Shaped and Schneidewind). The OSS products considered are Eclipse, Apache HTTP Server ...
متن کاملBayesian Estimation of Reliability of the Electronic Components Using Censored Data from Weibull Distribution: Different Prior Distributions
The Weibull distribution has been widely used in survival and engineering reliability analysis. In life testing experiments is fairly common practice to terminate the experiment before all the items have failed, that means the data are censored. Thus, the main objective of this paper is to estimate the reliability function of the Weibull distribution with uncensored and censored data by using B...
متن کاملSoftware Reliability Growth Modeling with New Modified Weibull Testing–effort and Optimal Release Policy
In software development life cycle, software testing is one of the most important tasks; and in the testing, software reliably is very important aspect for any category of software systems. A number of testing-effort functions for software reliability growth model based on non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP) have been proposed in the past. Although these models are quite helpful for software...
متن کاملTime Domain based Software Process Control using Weibull Mean Value Function
Control charts are widely used for process monitoring. Software reliability process can be monitored efficiently by using Statistical Process Control (SPC). It assists the software development team to identify failures and actions to be taken during software failure process and hence, assures better software reliability. In this paper we propose a control mechanism based on the cumulative quant...
متن کاملEvaluation of estimation methods for parameters of the probability functions in tree diameter distribution modeling
One of the most commonly used statistical models for characterizing the variations of tree diameter at breast height is Weibull distribution. The usual approach for estimating parameters of a statistical model is the maximum likelihood estimation (likelihood method). Usually, this works based on iterative algorithms such as Newton-Raphson. However, the efficiency of the likelihood method is not...
